Submission for review |
|
Below are two templates for the preparation of paper submission to AVSS2014: |
LaTeX template: avss_latex_template.zip |
Microsoft Word template: avss_word_template.zip |
|
Detailed style and formatting instructions can be
found in either template and in avss_template.pdf.
The blue numbering of text lines (the so-called ruler) must not be removed
in the version for review, as it greatly facilitates the review process,
but must be removed in the final version (see README files for instructions
how to prepare the final version). |
|
A complete paper, up to 6 pages long,
must be submitted using one of the above templates, formatted
for double-blind review, at: |
|
AVSS2014
submission site (Microsoft CMT). |
|
A paper submission implies that, if the paper is accepted,
one of the authors, or a proxy, will present the paper at the conference.Submissions
not using the above templates or disclosing identity of the authors
will be rejected without review. Before making a submission
please review "Policies"
below and then follow "Detailed
Submission Instructions" at the bottom. |
|
Camera-ready submission |
|
Follow these steps to submit the final (camera-ready)
version of your paper: |
|
|
1. |
Revise your paper: Please
read reviewer comments and revise your paper to address them (if applicable),
add author information and revert any changes you had made to ensure
author anonymity. You must use either the Latex or the Microsoft Word
template below (if you haven't already done so when preparing the
original submission) as otherwise IEEE will not accept your paper
for publication in IEEE Xplore. In Latex, you need to uncomment the
"\avssfinalcopy" and "\thispagestyle{empty}" lines.
The final version must not include line numbers (blue) and page numbers
(at the bottom). |
|
|
2. |
Check PDF file compliance with IEEE
PDF eXpress: Go to http://www.pdf-express.org
and use "33067x" as the conference ID. If you have used
PDF eXpress before (for another conference), login with your credentials;
you will be asked to set up an account for AVSS2014. Follow the instructions
for setting up a new title. If you are a new user, please set up a
new account and carefully read all the instructions. After you login,
you can find information on how to prepare your source or PDF file
in the menu on the left. |
|
|
3. |
Upload your paper's PDF file and IEEE
copyright form: Upload the PDF-eXpress-approved file to AVSS2014
submission site (Microsoft CMT). After you login, use the "Camera-ready
- Edit" icon to submit your paper and "Submit IEEE Copyright
form" link to prepare and upload the copyright form. | |
|
Critical deadlines and other information: |
|
Full papers for review must be uploaded
by 12:00 midnight March 31, 2014 Pacific Time. |
The camera-ready paper must be uploaded
by 12:00 midnight June 22, 2014 Pacific Time. |
The camera-ready paper should be limited
to 6 pages in length. However, up to 2 additional pages (maximum total
length of 8 pages) are allowed for an additional charge. You will be able
to pay this charge during registration. |
At least one author must register for the
conference at full (non-student) rate by June 22, 2014. Each full registration
can cover 1 paper only. Failure to meet this deadline will result in removal
of the paper from the AVSS2014 Technical Program. Online registration
is open at http://www.avss2014.org/registration. |
Papers which are not presented at the conference
will be excluded from the official proceedings and will not appear in
IEEE Xplore. It is, therefore, critical that at least one author of this
paper attend the conference to present the work. |
|
Policies |
Double-blind review |
AVSS2014 has adopted the so-called double-blind review
procedure, i.e., the identity of authors is hidden from reviewers and, of
course, vice versa. Therefore, in order to identify a paper one of the authors
must first register as a user on the submission website (CMT - link) and
enter paper title and abstract. This will result in the allocation of a
"Paper ID" that must be used instead of author names in preparation
of the submission for review. Please be sure to read both the formatting
instructions in the templates and policies (below) before submission. In
order that your paper be considered, it must be registered and submitted
on the CMT submission system by the deadline (March
31, 2014). |
|
Papers submitted for review must remain anonymous.
First, "Paper ID", as allocated by CMT website upon registration of the
paper, must replace author names and affiliations. Secondly, there must
be no identifiable self-references in paper content. Many authors misunderstand
the concept of anonymizing for blind review. Blind review does not mean
that one must remove citations to one’s own work - in fact it is often impossible
to review a paper unless the previous citations are known and available.
Blind review means that you do not use the words “my” or “our” when citing
previous work. Also, avoid providing information that may identify the authors
in the acknowledgments (e.g., co-workers and grant IDs) and in the supplemental
material (e.g., titles in the movies, or attached papers). Avoid providing
links to websites that identify the authors. Violation of any of these guidelines
will lead to rejection without review. If a paper is accepted, the final
version can (and should) include such self-references. For more detailed
instructions and examples please see Section 1.6 in the templates. |
|
Dual/Double Submissions |
By submitting a manuscript to AVSS2014, the authors
guarantee that it has not been previously published or accepted for publication
in substantially similar form in an archival peer-reviewed forum. Furthermore,
no paper which contains significant overlap with the contributions of this
paper is either under review at the moment of submission or will be submitted
during the AVSS2014 review period to any of the following: another conference,
a workshop, or a journal. Note that a Technical Report (departmental, arXiv.org,
etc.) that is disseminated without any form of direct peer-review is NOT
considered a publication. The authors also attest that they did not submit
substantially similar submissions to AVSS2014. Violation of any of these
conditions will lead to rejection. |
|
Author's Responsibilities |
If there are papers that may appear to violate any
of the above conditions, it is the authors' responsibility to (1) cite these
papers (preserving anonymity), (2) argue in the body of your paper why your
AVSS2014 paper is non-trivially different from these concurrent submissions,
and (3) include anonymized versions of those papers in the supplemental
material. |
|
Conflict Responsibilities |
It is the primary author's responsibility to ensure
that all authors on their paper have registered their conflicts into CMT.
Conflicts are needed to resolve assignments to both reviewers and area chairs.
If a paper is found to have an undeclared conflict that causes a problem,
the paper may be summarily rejected. |
|
Supplementary Material |
Authors may optionally upload supplementary material,
which may include: |
|
videos to showcase results/demo of the proposed
approach/system, |
images and other results in addition to
the ones in the paper, |
anonymized related submissions to other
conferences and journals, and |
appendices or technical reports containing
extended proofs and mathematical derivations that are not essential to
the understanding of the submitted paper. |
|
AVSS2014 encourages authors to submit videos using
an MP4 codec such as DivX contained in an AVI, compressed with ZIP. Also,
please submit a README text file with each video specifying the exact codec
used and a URL where the codec can be downloaded. |
|
The authors should refer to the contents of the supplementary
material appropriately in the paper. Note that reviewers will be encouraged
to look at it, but are not obligated to do so. |

areas, as this information is critical in allowing us to properly
assign papers to area chairs and reviewers. Caution: you cannot pick
the "primary" subject area as a "secondary" subject
area. For example, if you had picked "Face and Gesture"
as the "primary" area, you cannot pick "Face and Gesture"
as a "secondary" area. |
|
|
